Dayna – Originally from Canada, I caught the travel bug in 2006 when my best friend and I went backpacking around New Zealand for 2 months. It was during this time that I met Matt (a hot bartender at that point) and we hit it off. I continued my travels to Australia, where I took part in a 6 month YWAM course in Perth. The course took me to Indonesia for a couple of months and ended with a 3 week stint in Geraldton, WA. After a year at home, I moved to Wellington in August 2008 to live with Matt (who was now a hot accountant). A bout of The Crazy saw me head home for 9 months but Matt and NZ still had a tight grip on me so I moved back in February 2011!
Some interesting facts about me:
- I love sharks. Ok, that’s a bit of an understatement, I’m OBSESSED with sharks. I look forward to Shark Week on the Discovery Channel more than my birthday.
- I really like food. One of the things I’m looking forward to in our travels the most is getting to eat all kinds of yummy food! You can tell if I’m really enjoying a meal if I’m doing my food dance.
Matt – I grew up in New Zealand and up until I turned 21 I had only managed a couple of overseas trips to Australia (being a poor student living off a weekly student loan payment of $150 didn’t allow many exciting trips away despite my huge urge to travel).
I finally got to travel a bit with my last semester at University being spent abroad at UC San Diego (in 2007). During the 6 odd months I was away I managed a short trip to Mexico, quite a bit of travel around the US (mainly in California but I also did a Trek America trip from NY to LA by van), and also had a month long stay with Dayna in Canada (where Dayna and I first hatched a plan for her to move to NZ).
Since then I’ve also managed a 3 week trip to Thailand and Cambodia, and a 2 week trip back to Canada with Dayna (and a lot of travel around NZ). Other than that I’ve been working hard to become a Chartered Accountant (which, if you include university, has been a sometimes painful 7 year journey). But now I am finally free to travel so can’t wait to see more of the world and share it with Dayna.
Some random facts about me:
- I love spreadsheets and use them for everything including all our travel plans
- I used to be terrified of flying but have (largely) overcome that through flying a lot
The plan is to spend the foreseeable future living in Europe, travelling the world, and sharing as many experiences as we can. We’ve already crossed off heaps of things from our 100 Things list.
So please leave comments, ask questions, and give us tips – the purpose of this blog is for us to share our travels, keep in touch with family and friends, and interact with everyone who wants to know what we’re up to!
